Big Creek Lake to Lake Hike
Saturday, , November 11, 2017 @ 1:00pm Lake Isaac to Lake Abrams Loop Hike in the Big Creek Reservation Leader: Michael This hike will take you from Lake Isaac in the Big Creek Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks to Lake Abrams. Estimated distance: 4.4 miles. The Lake to Lake Trail provides public access to the two largest remaining glacial pothole wetlands in Cuyahoga County, Lake Isaac and Lake Abram. Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots recommended. Hike will take approximately 1-1/2 hours. Hike is paved the entire way- utilizing the rolling paved sidewalk of the Big Creek Reservation. Dogs are welcome but leash is required. We will also stop by the Graveyard at a Movie Theater Parking Lot-- which is a historic family cemetery of the Hepburn family who stipulated in his will that the cemetery remain forever untouched. This request has been obeyed over a century later. The Prehistoric Play Pit, at the northern end of the new Lake to Lake Trail, features a play area with a full-size replica of a Mastodon skeleton, a creature that roamed this area thousands of years ago. The replica Mastodon is almost 25 feet long, made on a steel framework and covered with a durable fiberglass resin. The trail on Hepburn Road between Bagley Road and Jefferson Parkway follows the city sidewalk. Ample diagonal parking is available at the side of the road and a restroom is available from the starting point. Accessibility: This hike is very accessible with no extreme hills or climbs—just rolling hills. Driving Directions: Lake Isaac is located off Big Creek Parkway in Big Creek Reservation, between Fowles Road and Main Street in Middleburg Heights. To Lake Isaac: I-71 - exit at Pearl Rd. (Rt 42) (from the north, turn left/ from the south, turn right) • at Fowles Rd., turn left (west) to Big Creek Parkway (.5 mile) • turn left on Big Creek Parkway • Lake Isaac Waterfowl Sanctuary will be on the right.
